California Supreme Court Removes Taxpayer Deception Act from the November Ballot

The California Supreme Court has released an opinion ordering the Secretary of State to refrain from putting the Taxpayer Deception Act on the November ballot. The measure would have risked a dangerous and unconstitutional revision of our state constitution. This decision avoids risking our historic Paid Family Leave and State Disability Insurance programs, as well as a host of other catastrophic impacts.

We appreciate the Governor and Legislature’s leadership in challenging this attack on voters. We are ready to confront any future similar attempts by corporate interests to rewrite the rules for their benefit, while harming vital programs that working families rely on like Paid Family Leave and Disability Insurance.

The California Work & Family Coalition is a statewide alliance of community organizations, unions, non-profits, and individuals dedicated to helping parents, caregivers, and families thrive. We are united in the belief that all people should have the time and resources to care for themselves and each other.
