Coalition Staff and Members Lead Trainings at BreastfeedLA's Birthing and Lactation Conference

On August 29th and 30th, BreastfeedLA hosted “Birthing Boldly, Fearlessly Feeding: Know Your Rights for Parents & Providers” at the California Endowment Center in Los Angeles. This two-day training event brought community members and “lactivists” together to discuss crucial topics affecting families, including birthing and lactation rights, paid family leave, and how to move legislation through advocacy.

Coalition partners, such as Katie Wutchiett from Legal Aid at Work, led a session on Paid Family Leave and Sick Days, while Molly Mauck and Sonia Shakoori from Public Counsel presented on Balancing Breastfeeding in a Professional Workplace. Coalition staff, Jasmine Amian and Angelica Andrade facilitated a presentation and an interactive role-play session focused on effective advocacy strategies both in the workplace and with legislators.

Governor Newsom has only 4 more days to sign Coalition Priority Bill SB 1090 (Durazo)!

The current Paid Family Leave (PFL) and State Disability Insurance (SDI) application process requires Californians to take a leap of faith by going on unpaid leave for several weeks or more without confirmation of whether they will be approved for PFL and SDI benefits and how much money we will receive.

SB 1090 (Durazo) will fix this and provide working families with more timely access to PFL and SDI benefits by allowing workers to apply for these benefits up to 30 days before an anticipated leave.

Governor Newsom has 4 more days to sign SB 1090. Please click here to easily email and call the Governor to urge him to sign SB 1090 into law.

Save the Date: The Annual Statewide Meeting is coming soon!

The California Work & Family Coalition is holding its Annual Statewide Meeting on Friday, November 8th 10am - 3pm in downtown Oakland. The Statewide Meeting is where Coalition members and allies join together to review our work in the prior year and set our direction for the year ahead. It’s a great opportunity for both long-term and new members to connect, learn about the Coalition, and have an impact on the work moving forward. This year, we are excited to be finalizing a long-term policy platform and gearing up for the implementation of SB 951 in 2024! Starting January 1st, Paid Family Leave and Disability Insurance will be more affordable for California workers due to the hard work of Coalition members and allies. Join us to celebrate and plan for successful implementation.

If you are interested in attending the Annual Statewide Meeting for the first time and would like more information, please contact us at info@workfamilyca.org
